So you’ve probably heard of this little thing called “global warming” or “climate change”. Now, we’re not scientists, extremists or hippies. However, we do believe in doing our part to pollute less and help the environment. Here’s what we’re doing to go Green and what you can do to help.
A lot of tea companies choose to use packaging that contain precious metals, excess plastic and some even use an additional packaging box that serves no purpose other than to make their product look fancy. Now, we’re all for marketing and good design but we think tea packaging should be functional, good looking and not produce unnecessary waste. For this reason, we use specially designed rice paper pouches with re-sealable zipper tops at Live Love Tea. The rice paper exterior eliminates extra plastic and aluminum that would normally be used in this type of package. The zipper top allows the bag to be functional so you can seal your teas without having to buy another container. Also, the bags were specifically designed for tea so they have a built-in odor shield. This is significant and necessary for tea as tea easily picks up odors and other flavors.
So what about the rest of the products we have? Well, we use 100% biodegradable cellophane to package our cookies and tea cakes. Our Organic Light Agave Nectar is packaged in quality reusable glass jars. The Pure Amber Rock Sugar comes in the same zipper pouches as the tea and our gift baskets are made from bamboo, a great all-natural and renewable resource.
We use USPS (United States Postal Service) as our primary shipping partner. Using USPS allows us to offer the lowest shipping rates to our customers but it also helps reduce carbon emissions. How? Well, USPS already drives through almost every neighborhood in the United States almost every day. Other commercial shipping companies typically only have set routes for commercial locations like malls, shopping centers and business parks so adding addresses to their route would result in excess fuel usage and excess pollution. However, we don’t want to send the wrong message. Commercial shipping companies definitely have their place and we use them for commercial shipping and when our customers request them.
Going green has been a focus of ours and will continue to be. Reducing waste and increasing our use of renewable energy makes sense for our customers, our industry and frankly, it’s just good business. Are we perfect? No, but we’re making changes and heading in the right direction. Join us by supporting Live Love Tea and doing the responsible thing.
